We went back and forth about venturing over to Edinburgh. It would be a 1.5 hour bus ride to and from so we were on the fence with our limited time in Scotland. By pure coincidence, however, my good friend (Ellyn) from childhood was in Edinburgh the same week that we were in Glasgow. Perfect! We planned to meet for drams and catching up. We hadn’t seen each other in almost 10 years so naturally I was excited and she travels constantly! She also turned out to be an excellent resource. She even sent us a lengthy detailed email about all the cities we were going to. It was amazingly thoughtful.
The bus ride was gorgeous once we reached the city limits. The architecture was mind blowing. We had a few hours to walk around before meeting up. We took this chance to walk by the Edinburgh Castle and down the Royal Mile.
We met owls (a bit touristy but Mick couldn’t resist) and walked down an alley straight out of Harry Potter to Devils Advocate. We met the most knowledgeable bartender when it came to scotch, so we spent the afternoon tasting whiskeys and sharing laughs.
Before the bus we stepped into a wine bar to enjoy our last minutes in the city. Beautiful day, beautiful city.
